Year 3 have been learning about internet safety and are now creating e-Safety posters!
This week Year 3 have enjoyed making their own compass in Science using a bowl of water, a plastic lid and a bar magnet! They were all able to locate where North was but they had to make sure their compass was not near any metal.
The children also were getting creative with their colour mixing in Art and learning which paint brush is best to use. They used our brand new iPads to research different colours and patterns of colourful fish to paint on their own clay fish. They had a great time in their lesson.
The children have also been doing some super description work in their English lesson, finding out facts about the Kennedy Space Centre in Geography on the iPads as well as handling money to buy different things in Maths.
Well done this week Year 3!
This week in Maths, we have been learning about fractions! We have learnt what a fraction is, names of fractions and how to find out fractions of objects. We really enjoyed our lessons!
In our Art lesson over the last 2 weeks we have been learning about mark making, patterns, shading and mono-printing through drawing fish! We particularly enjoyed this week as we used different coloured pastels which were very messy, but made our work look beautiful at the end.
What do you think?
Year 3 have had a very exciting time with Roald Dahl Week. We have been finding out how big the BFG is and measuring George’s Marvellous Medicine in Maths, investigating different speeds at which chocolate melts to help Willy Wonka build an Indian Palace in Science, we found out about Roald Dahl’s life in History and even wrote our own play script of a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in English. We also watched a super performance of the BFG!
As well as all this, we had Jules Howard come and talk to us about fossils as part of our Science topic ‘Earth Rocks!’. We really enjoyed learning about what life was like over one million years ago! We got to handle real fossils and found some very interesting examples. What a busy week!
In Science, we have been learning about how soil is made. We each had a different sample of soil from our gardens and investigated what happens to it when you put it in water, what it feels like and whether or not you can sieve it! We also enjoyed getting our hands mucky.
This week in D&T, Year 3 have been discussing, designing and creating their own version of Stonehenge using air-drying clay. Some of the pupils had to re-evaluate as they were going along to come up with their best design. Well done everyone!
Year 3 are off to a flying start! We have had an extremely busy week with story writing in English, learning about place value in Maths, starting our brand new science topic ‘Earth Rocks’ and our very first trip to Valley Road to learn how to play Tag Rugby with our Games teachers! We had a lot of fun.
Year 3 have been working really hard in History over the last couple of weeks to create their very own Saxon Village! We think it is fantastic!
This week in our Maths Challenge lesson, the pupils were trying solve the problem of using 36 counters in six colours to cover a square grid, so that there were no counters of same colour in any row, column or diagonal. It was quite tricky!
